Bank book (1825-1835, chiefly 1825-1826) listing expenses and balance of Manning's account with the Bank and Trust Company (Columbia, S.C.) for the period, 1825-1826. Volume also records account of Manning's expenses, 1835, for travel, lodging, goods and services while serving in the U.S. House; listing "expenses incurred since the 10th Dec. 1835 on way and at Washington," with expenditures for both goods (such as "ice creams" boots, "oranges [for] servant," and "ladies shoes," etc.) and for labor and services (washerwoman, hair cut, chambermaid)

Manning served as Governor of South Carolina, 1824 to 1826, and was later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Jacksonian Democrat, serving from 1834 until his death in 1836; husband of Elizabeth Peyre Richardson (1794-1873), a union that produced at least four children, including Richard Irvine Manning (1817-1861), who was the father at least six children, including Gov.
